WHAT IS THE MARION SWCD?

The Marion Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) encompasses the majority of Marion County, Oregon. The district lies in the northern portion of the Willamette River basin, which is located in northwestern Oregon. Comprising the western half of the district is the fertile Willamette Valley, while the eastern portion contains rolling foothills and the forested Cascade mountains. The district office is located in Salem, which is the largest city in the county and also the state capital.

Our Vision

The vision of the Marion SWCD is to:

The district is operated by a board of directors who are local landowners and citizens with a commitment to conserving natural resources within the district. These board members are elected to four-year terms and serve on a volunteer basis.

The SWCD staff provides technical assistance to landowners and operators regarding soil and water quality issues on their land. The district has no regulatory authority and is simply a resource for advice and consultation for the public. The staff also provides education and outreach to its members on various natural resource issues and topics.
