SUMMARY:Conservation Spotlight: Jakob Shockey on Beavers
DESCRIPTION:On this episode\, we will learn all about our Oregon state mammal\, the beaver\, with Project Beaver. We chat with Jakob Shockey\, Executive Director of project beaver\, an organization focused on protecting and coexisting with beavers. During this episode\, Jakob teaches us about the history of beaver in the Willamette Valley\, their importance to watershed health\, and how humans can live with them in harmony.   \nThe Conservation Spotlight is a radio segment shining light on partnerships and programs for natural resources that airs on the third Wednesday of every month at 8 am as part of the weekly Willamette Wake Up radio program on KMUZ 100.7 and 88.5 FM. Marion SWCD shares the Spotlight with Polk SWCD (and previously with OSU Extension Service Small Farms Program).

SUMMARY:First Friday: Beavers in the Willamette Basin
DESCRIPTION:Beavers and their habitats provide numerous benefits for ecosystems and communities. They can also cause conflicts on working lands\, roadways\, and urban areas. Jean-Paul Zagarola will discuss how the Mid-Willamette Beaver Partnership is developing tools to restore beneficial beaver habitat and resources for people in the region to better co-exist with beavers while mitigating their negative impacts. \nJean-Paul A. Jean-Paul cultivates diverse collaboratives to address complex socio-ecological problems and has a history of leveraging technical expertise\, partnerships and funding opportunities to support small non-profits and Tribes in their conservation work in the Willamette Valley and other regions of the state. Today\, Jean-Paul is focused on strategies that mitigate the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and communities through beaver-based restoration and wildfire resilience actions.
