DESCRIPTION:Small Farm School is an annual\, full-day learning event designed for both beginning and experienced small-scale farmers. Participants can choose from a variety of hands-on workshops and classroom sessions covering practical topics for managing and growing a small farm. \nCourse topics vary each year and may include crop and livestock management\, farm equipment\, business and marketing\, soil health\, and water conservation. SUMMARY:First Friday: Groundwater in Marion County\, Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Please join Travis Brown\, hydrogeologist with the Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD)\, for an overview of groundwater resources in Marion County. This presentation will explore the different types of aquifers found across the county\, how groundwater is managed at the state and county levels\, general groundwater level trends\, and areas of concern. \nGroundwater is an important resource for communities\, agriculture\, ecosystems\, and other water needs throughout the state. This presentation will provide an opportunity to better understand groundwater within Marion County\, including where groundwater comes from\, how it is managed\, and what current trends can tell us about this important resource. \nSpeaker Bio:\nTravis Brown has worked as a hydrogeologist for the Oregon Water Resources Department since 2018\, focusing on the Willamette Valley. DESCRIPTION:Join the Marion County Master Gardener Association for Pollinator Connection\, a free afternoon celebrating pollinators\, plants\, and the people who help create thriving habitat. The event features educational presentations\, demonstrations\, exhibits\, a plant sale\, and local vendors. \nThe 12–2 p.m. symposium will feature presentations on plants that provide food for pollinators from fall through spring\, as well as ways to enhance habitat\, resilience\, and beauty in the garden with low-water\, low-maintenance plants. \nFrom 2–4 p.m.\, the festival will offer live demonstrations and exhibits covering seed saving\, mason bee cocoon harvesting\, host trees\, pollinator biology\, kids’ activities\, and more. Here’s the process at a glance: \n1. Find your zone\nUse the SWCD Zone Map to confirm you live in an open zone. \n2. Complete the write-in form\nDownload and complete the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s write-in candidate form. \n3. Submit your form by October 20\nYour completed form must be submitted to the Oregon Department of Agriculture by 5:00 p.m. on October 20\, 2026. \n4. Participate in the November 3 election\nOnce the write-in filing process is complete\, your name will be eligible to receive write-in votes for the position. SUMMARY:Little Habitat Project (LHP) Community Kit Pickup Day
DESCRIPTION:Marion Soil and Water Conservation District (Marion SWCD) is excited to provide Little Habitat Project (LHP) Community Kits to community spaces throughout Marion County. These kits support the creation of small pockets of native habitat that help support pollinators\, wildlife\, and healthy ecosystems. \nApproved Community Kit recipients are invited to pick up their native plant kits and begin creating habitat connections in their communities. Each kit includes a selection of native plants chosen for Willamette Valley oak and prairie habitats\, providing an opportunity to add biodiversity and connect people and places through conservation. \nPickup Information: \nDate: October 30th\, 2026\nLocation: Marion Soil and Water Conservation District Office\, 408 N. Third Ave\, Stayton\, OR 97383\nPickup Details:\nDuring pickup\, Community Kit recipients will receive their plants to establish their habitat project.
