SUMMARY:Small Spaces\, Big Impact: Habitat at Any Scale
DESCRIPTION:Even the smallest spaces can contribute to conservation and become thriving habitat for pollinators and wildlife! \n\nJoin Marion SWCD’s Kassi Roosth and Kristen McAlpine as they celebrate three years of the Little Habitat Project and explore how you can create your own Little Habitat.  The Little Habitat Project is an initiative of Marion SWCD that promotes conservation practices that improve soil health\, protect water quality\, support pollinators\, and create healthier\, more connected landscapes. \nLearn how to incorporate conservation practices where you live and what makes a space valuable for pollinators and wildlife. Kassi and Kristen will share an overview of the program and certification process\, along with practical ideas and photo examples from Little Habitats throughout Marion County. See how others are putting these practices into action and get inspired by what’s possible in your own space. \nWhether you have a yard\, garden\, community space\, balcony\, or simply a small corner to work with\, you’ll discover ways to contribute to conservation at any scale. Whether you’re new to the Little Habitat Project or have been involved since the beginning\, this presentation is an opportunity to see what others are doing\, learn more about the program\, and discover how small-scale conservation can contribute to a healthier environment for all. \n\nSpeaker Bios:\nKassi\, Marion SWCD’s Environmental Education Specialist\, brings more than a decade of experience connecting people with the Willamette Valley’s natural resources through environmental education\, conservation planning\, horticulture\, and habitat creation. \nKristen\, Marion SWCD’s Urban Conservationist\, brings a background in community engagement and watershed health\, along with eight years of experience with native plants. \n___________________________________________\n\n\nFor questions about this event\, please contact Amy Zimmer\, Communications & Outreach Specialist\, at amy.zimmer@marionswcd.net or 503.949.4709. \nIf you need special accommodations to participate\, have ideas for future presentations\, or are interested in presenting for a future First Friday\, please reach out to Amy.
