SUMMARY:Great Raindrop Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:The Great Raindrop Scavenger Hunt is a self-guided scavenger hunt that will get you exploring local parks. Search for these raindrops featuring QR codes with fun water facts! At the end of the scavenger hunt\, you will find a prize! We will be celebrating World Water Day (March 22nd)\, with this year’s  theme “Water and gender equality: Where water flows\, equality grows.” This theme highlights the ways in which a lack of access to safe\, clean drinking reduces opportunities for women and girls\, who are often responsible for the time-consuming tasks of collecting and managing water. By drawing attention to the importance of safe\, clean drinking water and sanitation for all people\, we hope to spark inspiration for you to get involved locally to protect and improve water quality. \nYou can participate in the Great Raindrop Scavenger Hunt at Keizer Rapids Park or Bush’s Pasture Park (participate at one or both locations)! \nLook for the raindrop with a QR code to start the hunt — there’s no other signage\, so finding it is part of the fun! Need a hint? Here’s where to begin your search: \nKeizer Rapids Park: Check the parking lot side of the kiosk at the dog park parking lot. \nBush’s Pasture Park: Head to the far end of the Mission St. parking lot near the creek.

SUMMARY:First Friday: Biological Control of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
DESCRIPTION:Join Colin Park (USDA) and Max Ragozzino\, (ODA) for a summary of on-going efforts to use tiny stingless wasps to help control Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Meet the bio-control ‘agents’\, learn how they are produced\, how they do their work of finding and controlling EAB infestations\, how can you get involved and what will this mean for ash trees near you? \nOur co-presenters have worked on this subject for decades and bring with them a great deal of experience and expertise: \n\nColin Park is a USDA Plant Health Safeguarding Specialist in Oregon and began organizing EAB detection work in the state and overseeing pest bio-control programs in 2007.\n\n\nMax Ragozzino is the Oregon Department of Agriculture Bio-control Entomologist who manages invasive insect biological control since 2020. He has worked on emerald ash borer bio-control since 2015.\n\nWatch Now!!!\n\n\nThis presentation is part of an Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) series aimed at preparing landowners for the anticipated impacts of the invasive EAB beetle on Oregon’s native ash trees. \nPlease stay tuned to the Marion SWCD events page for upcoming emerald ash borer virtual presentations and in-person workshops designed to help landowners prepare their property. Upcoming topics include understory preparation\, invasive weed control\, native planting and propagation demonstrations\, and more. \nIf you have questions about this event or are interested in being a future First Friday presenter\, please contact Amy Zimmer\, Communications and Outreach Specialist at amy.zimmer@marionswcd.net  \n

SUMMARY:Conservation Spotlight: City of Salem EAB Management
DESCRIPTION:On this episode of Conservation Spotlight\, we welcome Milan Davis\, Urban Forester with the City of Salem\, to discuss the city’s proactive management of urban ash trees in the face of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The City of Salem has not yet had a confirmed presence of EAB but is within 25 miles of the known infestation area\, and so preparing for the arrival of this invasive and extremely destructive forest pest is crucial. Join us to hear the strategies\, partnerships\, and work already being done to protect our valuable urban trees from EAB. \nThe Conservation Spotlight is a radio segment shining light on partnerships and programs for natural resources that airs on the third Wednesday of every month at 8 AM as part of the weekly Willamette Wake Up radio program on KMUZ 100.7 and 88.5 FM. Marion SWCD shares the Spotlight with Polk SWCD . \nCan’t tune in live or want to hear more? Browse our archive of previously aired Conservation Spotlight episodes featuring local conservation topics and partners here.
