Meadow Checkermallow

Size: Small Container

Sidalcea campestris

Meadow checkermallow is a tall perennial wildflower endemic to the Willamette Valley of Oregon, where it grows in prairies, roadsides, and open meadows. It can reach 3–6 feet in height with upright stems lined by deeply lobed leaves and topped with long spikes of showy white to pink flowers that bloom in summer. Highly attractive to pollinators, especially native bees and butterflies, meadow checkermallow is considered a keystone nectar plant in valley prairie ecosystems. Ecologically, it plays a vital role in supporting pollinator networks and contributes to the diversity and resilience of remnant and restored prairie habitats.
