Castilleja miniata
Delicate, upright deciduous perennial with scarlet flowers. Parasitic with a range of host plants with which it should be planted, including Roemer’s fescue, yarrow, Oregon sunshine, and thimbleberry. Transplantation can be tricky. Plant paintbrush in the same hole as its host or plant in the root zone of a host plant already established in your garden. Apply compost for the first year to provide nutrients while the plant gets established.
