Large-flowered fairybells is a perennial herb native to the moist, shaded forests of the Pacific Coast, often found in coniferous and mixed evergreen understories. It produces arching stems with large, oval leaves and dangling, bell-shaped, pale green to cream flowers in spring. In the late summer, the flowers turn to orange-red berries. The plant thrives in rich, well-drained soils with consistent moisture and contributes to forest understory diversity. Its flowers provide nectar for native bees and other pollinators, while its subtle, graceful form adds texture and structure to shady woodland habitats. Large-flowered fairybells are very similar to Hooker’s fairybells with the distinction of having petals that are more tightly closed than Hooker’s.
