Ventenata dubia
Ventenata grass is an invasive annual grass spreading rapidly across rangelands, pastures, and roadsides in Oregon. It germinates early, matures quickly, and produces large amounts of seed, allowing it to outcompete native grasses and forage species. Its shallow roots and fine, wiry stems reduce soil stability and contribute to increased fire risk, while its low nutritional value makes it poor forage for livestock and wildlife. Ventenata infestations can severely degrade habitat quality, reduce biodiversity, and create long-term challenges for land managers attempting to restore healthy grassland ecosystems.
