Mountain Hemlock

Size: 1-Gallon

Tsuga mertensiana

Mountain hemlock is typically associated with high-elevations in the Cascade Range, but grows well in rich soil at lower elevations where it is prized for it’s graceful branches and blue-green needles. Recognizable by its narrow, spire-like crown and short needles that encircle the twigs, it can reach 100–150 feet in height under favorable conditions, but will top out at 30-100 feet in a garden setting. Ecologically, mountain hemlock provides shelter and food for wildlife while stabilizing soils.
