Join Dark Sky Oregon board member Chris Hill as he discusses the components of light pollution and its impacts on human and fauna’s circadian rhythm, bird migration, and nighttime pollinators. In this talk, Chris will discuss the tenets of smart lighting, the trending encroachment of light pollution on our night sky, what this means in Salem and Marion County specifically, and what you as a community member can do to help.

Chris is an experienced and avid deep sky astro photographer with a passion for preserving and sharing the wonders of the dark sky with everyone. Chris has wide experience in analytical chemistry, commodity sampling, software development and IT management. Formal certifications include Chemistry technician certificate, Diploma in computer programming, Project Management Professional (PMP), Stanford Certified Project Manager (SCPM), Six Sigma Green and Blackbelt certification.

Chris was born in London, England and emigrated to the US in 1984. He’s married with 2 adult daughters and has been living in Bend full time since May 2024.
