Narrow-Leaved Mule’s Ears

Wyethia angustifolia

Plant Description

Narrow-leaved mule’s ears are a perennial wildflower native to grasslands, open woodlands, and prairies of the western United States. They grow from a deep taproot and forms clumps of long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves that resemble those of true mule’s ears. In late spring to early summer, they produces large, sunflower-like yellow blooms on sturdy stalks, often creating bright displays in open habitats. Ecologically, narrow-leaved mule’s ears provide nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while its foliage and seeds offer forage for wildlife. Their drought tolerance and deep root system make them well adapted to dry upland environments and valuable in grassland restoration.
