Abies procera
Noble fir is a tall, stately conifer native to the Cascade Range and Coast Range of the Pacific Northwest, typically growing at higher elevations in cool, moist mountain forests. It can reach over 200 feet in height, with a straight trunk and symmetrical crown of dense, upward-curving branches. Its blue-green needles are arranged in neat rows, and its large, upright cones—among the largest of any fir—disintegrate on the tree to release seeds. Noble fir is prized for its strong, lightweight wood and is widely used in construction and as a popular Christmas tree due to its form, fragrance, and needle retention. The needles have been used as a cold remedy and as a citrusy seasoning.
