Tall Western Meadowrue

Thalictrum polycarpum

Plant Description

This shade-loving perennial is dioecious (has male and female flowers on different plants). The female flowers are airy tufts of magenta while the male flowers look like dangly tasseled yellow-green earrings. The leaves are delicate and compound, and can grow to 3′ tall.  Either sex makes a unique statement in the shady woodland garden.
