Learn to Fish is a free community event that brings together families, environmental organizations, local governments, and other community partners to promote enjoyment and stewardship of the Willamette River!
Six fishing skill stations will be set up to teach families the basic introductory skills needed to fish for trout and warm water species. Stations include: casting, knot-tying & rigging, water safety, fish ID & anatomy, stewardship, and aquatic habitats.
The Learn to Fish event begins at 9:00am at Keizer Rapids Park in the grassy area east of the boat ramp parking lot and will end at 11:30am. Complete a passport for the opportunity to win a door prize!
***Please note: we will not be fishing as this is a skill building event. Free Fishing Weekend takes place June 7 & 8 statewide.
Stations are provided thanks to great partners: Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), Salem Chapter of the NW Steelheaders, Keizer Police Department, Marion County Sherriff Marine Patrol, Oregon State Marine Board
Learn to Fish is an Our River event sponsored by Mid-Willamette Outreach Group. The Our River campaign is designed to increase connections between people and the Willamette River to promote healthy waterways and communities.
