Salmon Watch Field Trip

September 26, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

Chinook salmon in a stream

This field trip is with Stayton High School.

Salmon Watch is a place-based, experiential field trip that introduces students to local watersheds and the salmon that inhabit them. The field trip takes about 4 hours; start and end times listed are approximate. You will receive more exact times as the field trips draw closer.

Volunteers teach one of four lessons on field trips.

  • Salmon Biology: salmon life cycle, dissection, and cultural importance
  • Macroinvertebrates: collection and identification
  • Water Quality: dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and turbidity
  • Riparian ecology: riparian functions (habitat, erosion control, shade, and water storage & filtration)

For curriculum, visit the World Salmon Council website or the Linn Benton Salmon Watch website.
