Hooker’s Fairybells

Prosartes hookeri

Plant Description

Hooker’s fairybells is a perennial herb native to the moist, shaded forests of western North America. It grows from slender rhizomes, producing graceful, arching stems of opposite leaves and delicate, bell-shaped flowers that hang beneath the foliage in spring. The flowers are typically white, pale green to yellowish and are followed by small orange to red berries in summer. Hooker’s fairybells thrive in rich, well-drained soils under forest canopies, contributing to understory biodiversity and providing food for birds and small mammals while adding subtle visual interest to woodland habitats. It is drought tolerant and attractive to pollinators and hummingbirds.
