Dichelostemma congestum
Ookow is a perennial, bulbous wildflower native to meadows, grasslands, and open woodlands of western North America. It produces narrow, grass-like basal leaves and tall, leafless stalks topped with dense clusters of star-shaped, violet to deep purple flowers in late spring to early summer. The vibrant flowers attract native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, playing an important role in local ecosystems. Adapted to well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade, ookow is drought-tolerant and contributes to the aesthetic and ecological diversity of native meadow and hillside plant communities.
