Orange Honeysuckle

Lonicera ciliosa

Plant Description

Orange honeysuckle is a deciduous climbing vine native to moist forests, woodland edges, and riparian areas of western North America. It produces pairs of bright orange, tubular flowers in late spring to early summer, which are highly attractive to hummingbirds and native bees. The vine climbs by twining, with opposite leaves that often fuse at the base near the flowers. Later in the season, it forms clusters of translucent red berries that are eaten by birds. Orange honeysuckle thrives in partial shade to full sun and is an important structural and nectar resource in forested and mixed-habitat landscapes.
