Sidalcea asprella ssp. virgata
Rose checkermallow is an herbaceous perennial native to the Pacific Northwest, typically found in moist prairies and meadows. It features slender, upright stems and palmately lobed basal leaves, with showy 2-3′ spikes of pink to rose-purple flowers that bloom in late spring to midsummer. The flowers attract bees and butterflies, contributing to local pollinator diversity. This subspecies tolerates seasonally moist to well-drained soils and partial to full sun, making it an attractive and ecologically valuable component of native meadow and riparian restoration plantings.
