Yellow-leaf Iris

Iris chrysophylla

Plant Description

Yellow-leaf iris is a rhizomatous perennial native to dry to moderately moist open woods and grassy slopes of the Pacific Northwest, often found under oaks and conifers. It produces narrow, sword-like leaves that are bright green to yellow-green, and elegant pale creamy flowers in late spring. The blooms have distinct darker veins and yellow or white markings that guide pollinators such as native bees. Yellow-leaf iris thrives in well-drained soils and partial shade, making it an important component of upland, open forest understories and a visually striking addition to native gardens. It is deer resistant and drought tolerant.
