Brodiaea coronaria
Crown brodiaea is a perennial wildflower native to western North America, often found in colorful swathes painting grasslands and open slopes after other wildflowers and gasses have gone dormant. It grows from a corm and produces narrow, grass-like leaves along with tall, slender flower stalks that bear clusters of star-shaped, purple to violet flowers in late spring to early summer. Each flower features a prominent central stamen arrangement, giving it a delicate, ornamental appearance. Brodiaea coronaria thrives in well-drained soils and dry, sunny habitats, providing nectar for native bees and other pollinators while contributing striking color to spring and early summer landscapes.
