Evergreen Huckleberry

Vaccinium ovatum

Plant Description

Medium-sized evergreen shrub with small glossy leaves and pink urn-shaped flowers. Tasty dark purple berries ripen in early autumn and are a favorite of birds. Ornamental in the garden, with a look similar to boxwood but without the unpleasant odor that boxwood emits. It tolerates a wide range of soil and light conditions, and can be hedged, but fruits best in full sun with some moisture and minimal pruning.
