Western Meadowrue

Thalictrum occidentale

Plant Description

Western meadowrue is a delicate-looking, moisture-loving perennial found in shaded forests, streambanks, and cool mountain habitats of the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. It bears finely divided, bluish-green leaves and airy clusters of flowers that lack true petals, instead displaying conspicuous dangling stamens or pistils depending on the plant’s sex (it’s dioecious, meaning some plants are male and others are female). Blooming in late spring to early summer, it provides an early nectar and pollen source for insects despite its. Its light, feathery structure brings a delicate, airy appearance to forest understories.
